Reflections

  • Write a short reflection on dealing with the heat last week: reflect on how you felt, and suggest ways you could deal with it better next time.

Last week, it was over 40’C degree for straight 4 days. In Korea, it is humid in summer, but the temperature itself doesn’t go over human’s body temperature, so it was a strange experience for me. Since there was no air conditioner in the school dormitory, it was very frustrating to get sleep at night. I went to beach to cope with the heat and it was very cool. Next time, I will freeze abundant supply of ice and will put them in my room because I don’t pay for the electricity.

  1. Write a brief reflection on the best place you have eaten in Melbourne. You should make a recommendation about what to eat from the menu and try to persuade the reader that they should go there.

If you are looking for most sensational and delicious food, you should go to the most expansive restaurant in Crown Casino. However if you are looking for some affordable place you should go to the fish n chips in Belgrave station. A Chinese couple are running the place, and it is about 5 minute far away from Puffing Billy. The fish n chips set includes fried fish, chips, and a 500mL soda can. The taste is really good for $7, the fish is really big, and a lot of chips are given.

  1. Write a short piece to inform the reader about a film or book or website that helped you improve your vocabulary. If you can’t think of an example suggest other ways a student might improve their vocabulary, and explain why these other ways are useful.

In Korea, to go to a university you have to do the exam called SuNeung, which is some kind of Korean style SAT. If you study many books for the exam, for more than 3 hours per day, including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, for 2 years, your vocabulary will be improved.

  1. Read an article from The Economist, The Atlantic, or from QZ –reflect on the language used, and the whether you think reading sources like this is better for your English than reading something like MX.

It is much better to read some proper newspaper such as The Economist to improve English. Actually my English listening and reading skill is based on American Hip-hop music, especially Eminem. It has many benefits since I can learn English from music that I enjoy. However, my vocabulary is sometimes not appropriate, may be offensive, and lacks in elegant words. So, reading proper articles will be much better for improving the language.

  1. Over the weekend,  write a reflection on your group work to date- How has it progressed? have there been any issues?  could your group work better together?

Since there are two Brazilians and one Korean in the group, the communication is not fluent, so our group is having little bit of communication problem. However it is getting better and the progress is going further, so there is not much big issue in the group. However if we could get more time, we could progress faster.

  1. On Australia Day, write a short reflection about how you might have changed since you came to Australia and think about whether you would recommend Australia to other people as a place to live/immigrate to. Explain why.

Australia has a very different type of mind compared to Korea. ‘Easy going’ perspective of Australia is making me to be relaxed. Australia is a great place to live since the price of beef is cheap. It has very great scenery, the people are kind, the weather is usually great. However everything except beef is very expensive and closes at 5.PM. Also, for a Korean it is hard to withstand the speed of computer and internet in Australia.

In conclusion, I will recommend people to immigrate to Australia since it is a great place to live in. But, I will only recommend to the people, who have their professional occasions since the living cost is extremely high.

Robot + Medicine

Robot surgery such as Da Vinch surgery will be more popular in the future. However, the price must be lowered. Even in Korea, the country with the one of the lowest cost for medical care, one simple surgery even costs more than 7000 dollars. The robotic arm surgery is expensive, not only because of the big fancy machine, but because of the fact that robot arms must be replaced after several surgeries, since the primary part of the arms could be weathered.
Also there could be human genome search to prevent from certain disease from occuring.

What is Aussie

I think being an Australian is to eat a lot of meet, because meet is really cheap in here!
When it comes to beef, it’s 8 times cheaper than Korea.

Also, I think I like vegimite.

Introduction

My name is Jimmy SONG, 20 years old, and from South Korea.

In my country I study in Keimyung University, which is a university lying on the west side of Daegu City.

My major is medicine, and in next 5 years, I am planning to study my field and get a medical doctor’s degree, shortened as MD.

After finishing my MD, residence, and mandatory militery service, I plan to study abroad for Ph.D in field of medicine. I am also interested in examinations such as USMLE, which is a test to get a medical doctor’s degree in U.S.

Since I’m not having that much trouble living in Melbourne, I am also planning to be a doctor in U.S. or in Austrillia.

I haven’t decided which specific part I will choose, because I basically don’t know much about medicine yet. So I am very eager to get basic things ready, such as organic chemistry, molecular biology, and English skill.

I am also interested in sports, I like baseball, football, tennis, and any kinds of sports. I am in an amateur baseball club in Korea, I learned Muay-Tai, and I am interested in learning Brazilian Grace Jiu-jitsu.
